tweens

If you are looking for ways to better communicate with your tween, if you would like to learn more about the adolescent culture, or see the latest in tween trends, welcome to this section of Practicing Parents!

Although the definition can change a little, the most widely accepted delineation of a tween is between the ages 9-12.

Wondering where the term “tween(ager)” came from? It was originally coined by marketing executives to describe that elusive group that aren’t quite teenagers, but can longer be described as kids either. This is a difficult age (both for the tweens and parents), where attitude and moods rule the roost. Our experience at Practicing Parents is that information on tweens is less easily found than for any other age groups and we’re here to put the record straight.

Tween Advice

Parenting tweens today involves knowing about the newest trends, the adolescent culture, and how to communicate effectively with your child. If you are looking for advice on how to deal with tweens; the mood swings, the school problems, the anxieties as they grapple with who they are then you will find a range of useful reference material designed to help you manage this challenging period of upbringing.

There are many demands put on teens both in the home and socially and instilling important values and helping them grow through this stage is all important. Assisting them in making new friends, teaching them to be confident about what they stand for and participating positively in their lives is crucial.

In this section we cover topics ranging from diet and sport to fashion and chores. With hormones beginning to rage, this time can be especially testing, but you will find ongoing support, useful advice and open forums to help you keep that all important relationship with your tweenager, and bring you even closer.

Tween Products

Sales of youth haircare, cosmetics, skincare, games and toys are at an all time high and corporations are desparately trying to reposition their products for the tween market. Parents want safe and educational products whilst the tweens want the glitz and glamour and are only interested in the “new big thing” (which, incidentally only lasts a couple of weeks!).

These reviews will help you avoid the scams and the fads, enabling you to pick the winners from the losers and ensuring that your money isn’t ill-spent, whilst giving your tweens something “cool” at the same time.
