Ah, that's a good story (I'm talking about Lord of the Rings of course)! Seriously, it's always especially rewarding when step children help cement the bonds in a blended family.

This is a great article. I'm the step parent to two beautiful kids. The eldest was 5 and a half at the time I met his father. The transition didn't appear too hard however, what I did notice, was that when I moved in, 2 years later, the little guy became closer to me. He was more affectionate, initiating hugs, it really touched my heart. I really believe that the little guy realised I wasn't going anywhere, and felt secure. Our relationship has continued to grow over the past 5 and a half years. What makes me smile, this now 11 year old, when it comes to bedtime, waits for me with his copy of Lord of the Rings, so we can enjoy the experience together.
Step Parenting, well worth the rewards.

Great article! When a step family first starts to blend, everyone is on the defensive. It's important to convey that there is no competition, everyone will still be loved and treated fairly.
